Fancy Face at the Nutcracker!

What is fancier than getting all your girls together, getting dressed up and going to watch the ballet? Oh also add a glass of Champagne during intermission to that! This year for our annual Fancy Face Holiday Party we took the entire team to the National Ballet’s The Nutcracker. It was such a beautiful night and we couldn’t be happier to be surrounded by the best team of makeup artists and hair stylists in the industry!

We were so lucky this year to have almost all of our team with us to watch this incredible show! It was held at the glamorous Four Seasons Centre in Toronto.

We are so lucky to work with such beautiful, smart women who are continually inspiring each other in everything they do. The night was filed with chats about favourite moments of the year as well as new hair and makeup tricks! We are constantly learning from one another and continue to grow as a team!

Many selfies were taken and many memories were made! Can’t wait for what 2018 brings the whole team here at Fancy Face!!

Thank you to everyone for an amazing and fancy 2017!! xox

Bridal Hair Jewellery

The perfect dress and makeup are undoubtedly two things at the top of every bride’s wishlist, but a bride’s look is not complete until she finds the perfect hairstyle…plus the all-important shiny pieces to bring the whole look together.

Here we talk about the essential pieces of bridal hair jewellery.

The Veil

Yes, it’s not technically jewellery, but how can we discuss bridal hair and fashion without mentioning the most iconic piece that a bride wears on her wedding day. I know some people may choose to forgo a veil nowadays, but your wedding day is basically the only time you can wear a veil without looking weird. So go ahead and wear one if you want!

This stunning Amanie Pearl Veil from Blair Nadeau should be all the reason you need to wear a veil, and it is simply too breathtaking to not mention on this blog! The jewels in this veil come courtesy of the hundreds of Preciosa pearls, which are hand applied on this single tier non gathered mantilla style French tulle veil.

The Hair Comb

When wearing a veil, it’s a good idea to keep your hairstyle and accessories somewhat simple to keep your look from becoming too cluttered.  Either of these jeweled stunners from Kleinfeld would be a perfect complement to wear under a veil. They manage to add some sparkle without stealing the show away from the veil.

Filigree Luna Comb

Nevoux Comb

The hair comb can also be worn alone without a veil and pairs especially well with a side-swept hair style.

The Crown or Tiara

Even though your veil may be too beautiful to take off, you might want to for the reception just so you have an excuse to wear another piece of jewellery. If you do plan on taking it off, make sure you have someone (preferably one of our stylists) on hand to help you remove the veil correctly and re-position your hair style and hair accessories if necessary. Your hairstyle might get ruined if the veil isn’t taken off carefully and correctly.

Why not replace the veil with something even more dramatic like this Adeline Gold Starburst Crown? Adhering to the 2017 collection’s celestial theme perfectly, this crown contains a variety of differently-sized starbursts that are hand painted and finished with a shimmery iridescent coating, and of course a few Swarovski pearls and crystals.

Adeline Gold Starburst Crown

Or perhaps you are a Games of Thrones fan? This medieval-inspired crown made of golden brass stamped filigree medallions will have you feeling like the Queen on the Iron Throne at your wedding, but we all know how infamous weddings are in Westeros…

The Headband

Wearing a bejeweled headband certainly makes for a bold and unique fashion statement. Similar to the crown or tiara discussed above, headbands, or diadems as they were called in ancient Greece, also signified royalty in some ancient cultures. Feel like a princess in one of these delicate creations by Elsa Corsi.

The Sarah Halo headband features three round clusters of Swarovski Crystal with Vintage Rose cushion cut center stones that are meant to rest on your forehead, as well as a double layer of crystals that swags at the back, making it as beautiful from the front as it is from the back.

The Tina headband features a striking lattice design of marquise flowers in the front, which can be worn directly on the forehead or higher up on the crown.  Powerful and feminine at the same time, we’d like to imagine that this stunning piece is what Wonder Woman would wear on her wedding day.

The Look from Behind

You want to ensure that your guests will have something to dazzle them during your long walk down the aisle, and for part of the ceremony as well. This understated string of Swarovski Crystals from Elsa Corsi gives you the circlet look from behind without committing to the whole crown. It’s the perfect look for brides who opt to wear their hair down.

Jeweled Hair Swag

The Flower Girl

Don’t let the cute flower girls be the only ones who get flowers. Flowers tucked behind the ears instantly evoke feelings of carefree days in the sun. Bring a bit of the beach into your wedding day by adorning your hair with silk flowers, which are just as beautiful as and more enduring than the real thing.

This Flora Silk Flower Hair Comb is made from the Peau de Soie silk, the ‘queen of all silk’. Each of the three beautifully crafted blooms are hand pressed using traditional millinery irons, and in the center of each lies a beautiful hand wired Swarovski crystal and pearl stamens. The perfect complement for a side-swept do.

Remember, if you can’t choose just one piece to wear, then change it up! Wear one during the ceremony and reserve the more dramatic piece for the reception, when it’s time to let your hair down and party.

A Celebration of Canadian Beauty – 150th Canada’s Day Edition

You might have heard the small piece of news recently that Canada just turned 150 years old. Well, if you somehow managed to miss all the splendor and celebration surrounding our Nation’s milestone birthday, fret not, for Fancy Face Inc. has decided to recognize Canada Day in our own glamourous way.

When discussing famous makeup brands, usually European makeup companies spring to mind. However, there have been an increasing number of home-grown brands gaining traction in the industry. For our Canada’s Day edition, we have rounded up six significant Canadian brands that should be on your beauty radar.

NUDESTIX

The Basics:

Founded and headed by an energetic mother and (two) daughters combo, they adhere to a less-is-more philosophy when it comes to your makeup kit. All the products are pencil or stick-based and come in cute, handy packaging complete with sharpener, mirror and instructions.

The Canadian-connection:

Launched in May 2014 by mom and company president Jenny Frankel, a chemical engineer. Frankel once worked at MAC Cosmetics and was also a co-founder of Cover FX Makeup, another Canadian makeup brand. The company is still based in Canada, with its headquarters located in north Toronto.

The Must-have:

Nudies All Over Face Color Matte: A highly-rated multitasker that has a soft color balm on one side and a blending brush on the other. It provides natural soft colour for the eyes, cheeks and lips.

BITE BEAUTY

The Basics:

This lipstick-centered brand is known for its food-grade (a.k.a. edible) ingredients. It is a relatively young company, but there is already lots of media buzz surrounding its products. Their signature six products of a lip pencil, lipstick, lip crayon, lip balm, lip scrub and liquefied lipstick combine to give you the perfect kissable lips.

The Canadian-Connection:

Founded by Torontonian Susanne Langmuir in 2013, the company hand makes all their products in a very cool-looking factory in Toronto, Ontario. In fact, there’s even a movie-trailer worthy video of how their lipsticks are made on their website.

The Must-haves:

All of their products look enticing, but their Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Kimchi is definitely worth a look as it won the Nylon 2016 Beauty Hit List award for Best Pink Lipstick. Also worth a trip is their Lip Lab on Queen Street West in downtown Toronto, where you can design your own custom lip colour.

ILIA

The Basics:

Using natural and organic ingredients, this line focuses on delivering ethically and sustainably produced cosmetics with a focus on lip care. Each product contains certified organic bio-active botanicals that are meant to pretty you up while nourishing and rejuvenating your skin at the same time.

The Canadian-Connection:

Even though the brand is now based in Los Angeles, ILIA was first launched in 2011 in Vancouver, Canada, where the founder, Sasha Plavsic was born and raised. The first collection in 2011 consisted only of six Tinted Lip Conditioners, but rapidly grew to forty pieces in less than two years, and is now available in over 15 countries.

The Must-have:

The minimal yet stunning packaging can be reason alone to own any piece of this line, but since this brand was founded on Tinted Lip Conditioners, it is not surprising that these earn the most praise. Try the Crimson & Clover shade when you want a red lip that doesn’t look too overdone.

LISE WATIER

The Basics:

Encompassing a wide range of products that covers makeup, skincare and fragrance, it became the largest Canadian company in the beauty industry after its merger with Groupe Marcelle Inc. in early 2016.

The Canadian-connection:

Like the nation it is based in, Lise Watier Cosmetics is also celebrating a milestone birthday this year. Founded in Quebec by the pioneering Madame Watier in 1972, this brand is celebrating its 45th year as a leader in the cosmetic industry. Another piece of its Canadian identity can be found in the brand’s heavy use of Canadian flora in its products, such as the Labrador tea. The Labrador tea extract has been combined with other ingredients to create a highly efficient anti-aging complex.

The Must-have:

Portfolio Professional Correctors:  This award-winning concealer has been a fan-favourite for over fifteen years; its unique palette combats five common problems, helping countless users achieve the perfect complexion.

LOCKS & MANE

The Basics:

Used and loved by the Fancy Face Inc. team, Locks & Mane is a Toronto-based hair extensions company that offers high quality natural hair extension clip-ins and semi-permanent hair extensions. Their product list isn’t long, but they are high on quality. Like they say on their website, “we believe in doing one thing well – like, really well.”

The Canadian-connection:

Founder and CEO Jennifer Parrott came up with the idea of offering fast and affordable extensions in a luxurious downtown Toronto studio space after spending eight years and thousands of dollars on hair extensions. That studio space is now Locks & Mane’s location on Queen Street West in downtown Toronto.

The Must-have:

Contact Tiffany at tiffany@fancyface.ca to book your own custom colour-match appointment in the Fancy Face Inc. studio, and get that voluminous look you always dreamed about!

LADY LASH CLUB

The Basics:

Love false lashes but tired of wasting time looking for quality lashes? Look no further than this company, which came up with the ingenious concept of delivering four pairs of cruelty-free mink eyelashes to your door every month. For those who hate commitment, there’s also an option to cancel anytime or change the lash styles up to 10 days prior to your next delivery date.

The Canadian-connection:

They are a fairly new company, having only started in 2015 out of Coquitlam, near Vancouver in British Columbia. Although they are based in Canada, their lashes are shipped world-wide.
