2017 Fall Beauty Rundown

What comes to mind when you think of fall? I think of a return to routine, school runs, more traffic and the onslaught of too many pumpkin spice-related products.

Fall also signals cooler and drier weather, and fashion that leans towards richer and darker tones. Instead of the lighter more natural looks favoured in the summer, the drier weather allows for more makeup coverage and bolder colours. This year, metallics dominated the 2017 fall designer runways. Below are some fall essentials that will help you say goodbye to summer.

SKINCARE

The cool and dry weather calls for extra hydration to keep your skin looking gorgeous

KIEHL’S – Ultra Facial Moisturizer

This is the classic must-have moisturizer that provides all-day hydration during both the humid summer months as well as the drier fall and winter seasons. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t already!

LA MER – The Revitalizing Hydrating Serum

This serum provides continuous hydration and energy through its sea-sourced actives of The Deep Hydration Ferment, a blend of green, brown and red algae. Also containing the powerful antioxidant Lime Tea Concentrate, it protects against the fall elements, allowing skin to thrive and any lines are naturally softened and repaired.

HAUSCHKA – Hydrating Cream Mask

The creamy texture is heavier and more moisturizing, protecting dry skin from harsh weather. It retains moisture while supporting the skin’s natural process of oil protection. Ingredients include nourishing almond, avocado and jojoba oils that hydrate the outer skin layer while rose wax soothes and protects.

EYES

On the fall 2017 runways, metallic eyeshadows dominated. Not just delicately applied either, but boldly swept across lids that made for striking feminist statements.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY – Nocturnal Cat Eyes to Hypnotise in Silver Leopard – Eyeshadow

Charlotte has always been inspired by the hynoptic gaze of cats and how their eyes emit light outwards. Luckily, she channeled this inspiration into this glittering gunmetal grey eyeshadow, which became a best-seller. Use it to create a sultry, feline look just in time for Halloween and the upcoming party season.

STILA – Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in various colours

If you thought that metallic shades only came in silver or copper, these beautifully-packaged liquid eye shadows from Stila will make you think again. There are eleven shades in total to help you create that glowing, shimmery look. The water-infused texture glides on effortlessly and dries smoothly, instantly locking in maximum sparkle with minimal smudging.

DIOR – Metalizer – Fall 2017 Limited Edition – Eyes & Lips Cream Shadow

This latest innovation from Dior does double-duty with a creamy, ultra-pigmented formula that lights up both the eyes and lips with a metallic shine. It can be applied alone, or on top of existing eyeshadow or lipstick to add extra shine. In keeping with the metallic theme, my pick is the versatile Copper Power shade.

LIPS

For days on which you want to forgo the strong eyeshadow, why not move the attention to your lips instead? Lips didn’t shy away from bold colours either on the fall runways. Deep berry shades of purple, burgundy or blackened plum, were seen adorning the lips of models at dozens of shows. Such a strong lip is best paired with minimal makeup, or if you want to imitate the runways, go all out with a heavy dark eyeliner or colourful eyeshadow.

BECCA COSMETICS – Lush Lip Colour Balm in Black Violet

Becca Cosmetics is a line that has attracted much love recently and it’s easy to see why with this beautiful shade. It’s simple and clean packaging stands in stark contrast to the drama of this deep berry shade. This is a balm however, so don’t be intimidated by the strong shade. It has buildable pigments that still allow your natural lip colour to shine through, and you can layer it however you like to create your own perfect shade.

CHANEL – Rouge Allure Velvet in Nightfall

This luscious looking lipstick is part of Chanel’s 2017 Fall-Winter Collection, which was inspired by Lucia Pica, Chanel’s global creative makeup and colour designer, and her road trip to the Californian coast. This shade is in line with the rich berry colours popular this season, but offers a more sensual matte finish.

MARC JACOBS – Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick in Trax

Inspired by the design house’s Fall 2017 runway, this limited-edition creamy black-burgundy lipstick delivers 10-hour wear in just one sensual swipe. Its dark-burgundy pigment appears almost black, and looks especially stunning paired with neutral shadows.

NAILS

YVES SAINT LAURENT – La Lacque Couture – Fall Look 2017 Nail Lacquer in Bronze Fever

To complete the metallic look coat your nails in this rich bronze colour, inspired the nightclubs of the 70s. This exclusive lacquer has an extra holographic shimmer courtesy of the multi-coloured pearl effect polish that reflects light like disco balls, for an ultra-sparkling manicure.

Bridal Hair Jewellery

The perfect dress and makeup are undoubtedly two things at the top of every bride’s wishlist, but a bride’s look is not complete until she finds the perfect hairstyle…plus the all-important shiny pieces to bring the whole look together.

Here we talk about the essential pieces of bridal hair jewellery.

The Veil

Yes, it’s not technically jewellery, but how can we discuss bridal hair and fashion without mentioning the most iconic piece that a bride wears on her wedding day. I know some people may choose to forgo a veil nowadays, but your wedding day is basically the only time you can wear a veil without looking weird. So go ahead and wear one if you want!

This stunning Amanie Pearl Veil from Blair Nadeau should be all the reason you need to wear a veil, and it is simply too breathtaking to not mention on this blog! The jewels in this veil come courtesy of the hundreds of Preciosa pearls, which are hand applied on this single tier non gathered mantilla style French tulle veil.

The Hair Comb

When wearing a veil, it’s a good idea to keep your hairstyle and accessories somewhat simple to keep your look from becoming too cluttered.  Either of these jeweled stunners from Kleinfeld would be a perfect complement to wear under a veil. They manage to add some sparkle without stealing the show away from the veil.

Filigree Luna Comb

Nevoux Comb

The hair comb can also be worn alone without a veil and pairs especially well with a side-swept hair style.

The Crown or Tiara

Even though your veil may be too beautiful to take off, you might want to for the reception just so you have an excuse to wear another piece of jewellery. If you do plan on taking it off, make sure you have someone (preferably one of our stylists) on hand to help you remove the veil correctly and re-position your hair style and hair accessories if necessary. Your hairstyle might get ruined if the veil isn’t taken off carefully and correctly.

Why not replace the veil with something even more dramatic like this Adeline Gold Starburst Crown? Adhering to the 2017 collection’s celestial theme perfectly, this crown contains a variety of differently-sized starbursts that are hand painted and finished with a shimmery iridescent coating, and of course a few Swarovski pearls and crystals.

Or perhaps you are a Games of Thrones fan? This medieval-inspired crown made of golden brass stamped filigree medallions will have you feeling like the Queen on the Iron Throne at your wedding, but we all know how infamous weddings are in Westeros…

The Headband

Wearing a bejeweled headband certainly makes for a bold and unique fashion statement. Similar to the crown or tiara discussed above, headbands, or diadems as they were called in ancient Greece, also signified royalty in some ancient cultures. Feel like a princess in one of these delicate creations by Elsa Corsi.

The Sarah Halo headband features three round clusters of Swarovski Crystal with Vintage Rose cushion cut center stones that are meant to rest on your forehead, as well as a double layer of crystals that swags at the back, making it as beautiful from the front as it is from the back.

The Tina headband features a striking lattice design of marquise flowers in the front, which can be worn directly on the forehead or higher up on the crown.  Powerful and feminine at the same time, we’d like to imagine that this stunning piece is what Wonder Woman would wear on her wedding day.

The Look from Behind

You want to ensure that your guests will have something to dazzle them during your long walk down the aisle, and for part of the ceremony as well. This understated string of Swarovski Crystals from Elsa Corsi gives you the circlet look from behind without committing to the whole crown. It’s the perfect look for brides who opt to wear their hair down.

Jeweled Hair Swag

The Flower Girl

Don’t let the cute flower girls be the only ones who get flowers. Flowers tucked behind the ears instantly evoke feelings of carefree days in the sun. Bring a bit of the beach into your wedding day by adorning your hair with silk flowers, which are just as beautiful as and more enduring than the real thing.

This Flora Silk Flower Hair Comb is made from the Peau de Soie silk, the ‘queen of all silk’. Each of the three beautifully crafted blooms are hand pressed using traditional millinery irons, and in the center of each lies a beautiful hand wired Swarovski crystal and pearl stamens. The perfect complement for a side-swept do.

Remember, if you can’t choose just one piece to wear, then change it up! Wear one during the ceremony and reserve the more dramatic piece for the reception, when it’s time to let your hair down and party.
