Britt’s Christmas Shopping List

It is never too early to start thinking about the perfect Christmas gifts for your beloved friends and family. Need some expert inspiration? Here are Britt’s top beauty picks for 2017 that are sure to make you the most popular Santa around.

For the hair goddess

1) T3′ Whirl Trio Interchangeable Styling Wand

We all want our hair to look great, but who has the time to achieve that ‘just left the salon’ look every day? This award-winning styling wand from T3 definitely makes looking effortlessly glamourous, actually effortless. It’s suitable for all hair types, be it straight, curly or wavy; and with three interchangeable barrels, you can create defined spiral curls, beachy waves or full-body glamour waves for any occasion.

For the makeup palette-lover

2)Huda Beauty’s Desert Dusk Eyeshadow Palette

The name of this palette conjures warm, tropical vacations in a distant land…the perfect escape for our cold Canadian winters. The shades are breathtaking to look at, and with names like Saffron, Amethyst and Amber, this palette looks almost as beautiful in the package as it is on your eyes. Huda Beauty is also a growing beauty brand with a very charismatic make-up artist/beauty blogger and her two sisters as the owners, so it’s worth checking out if you want to support a (fairly) new and promising brand.

For the contour expert

3)Fenty Beauty by Rihanna’s Match Stix Trio

Rihanna’s beauty line has barely been out for a few months and it’s already become a massive top-seller and fast on its way to achieving cult status. It’s not just Rihanna’s star power (although that likely helped), but the actual products themselves have been critically acclaimed by beauty experts and regular users alike. It’s been especially praised for its inclusivity, and this trio of long-wear, light-as-air highlighters are curated by skin tone, and are meant to “conceal, contour, and highlight on repeat”. This is the ultimate gift for the Rihanna fan on your list, or anyone else for that matter!

For the makeup lover who loves the ‘no makeup look’
4)Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Blush Kit

During the winter months, a lack of sun and warmth can leave your complexion looking pasty and tired (especially from all that Christmas shopping!). Create a natural glow by infusing your cheeks with the rosy colours in this blush kit that comes in two sets of shades, with four full-pigments in each set. Anastasia started out and is still known for crafting expert eyebrows, but we are glad to see them branching out into other beauty products.

For the romantic party-girl

5) Too Faced’s Just Peachy Velvet Matte Eyeshadow Palette – Peaches and Cream Collection

Just the name ‘velvet matte’ is enough to attract a makeup lover’s attention. With the recent craze for matte lips, it’s nice to see that it’s finally the eyes’ turn to get the matte treatment. Glitter and metallic shadows are fine and well for holiday party looks, but there is just something very romantic and mysterious about matte eyelids (or matte anything for that matter!). As an added plus, this product promises to smell like peaches and cream. Get this for the makeup fanatic who already has enough metallic and glitter in their arsenal.

For the scent hound

6) Elizabeth and James’ A Little Bit of Nirvana

It is said that certain memories are embedded in certain scents, and that we are often not even conscious of the association between these memories and their scents until we encounter that scent again. That’s why choosing the right fragrance is such an important and personal thing. You can associate one specific fragrance with only one person forever, which can either be a good or a bad thing (depending on who that person is). This elegantly packaged fragrance set allows you to remember someone with four different scents. The mini bottles are named: Nirvana Black, Nirvana Bourbon, Nirvana White and Nirvana Rose. The wearer can choose which one to wear depending on the memories she wishes to create that day.

For the makeup pro
7) Sephora Collection’s House of Lashes Lash Story Pro Edition

False lashes are the essential finishing touch in every makeup artist’s routine, but they can be notoriously tricky for a makeup novice to apply. However, this collection of lashes will make you want to practice and practice until you get it right.  Each set is distinctive in the look it creates and will make a lasting impression regardless of the occasion. Buy this for the makeup enthusiast, or anyone else who’s been reluctant to try false lashes by themselves. Once they open the package, they’ll be itching to wear a different set everyday.

For the facial-addict

10) TATCHA’s Bestsellers Set

Do you have that friend who loves going to the spa and knows about every new skincare craze there is? Well impress him or her with this collection of the four essential bestsellers from TATCHA, a brand created around centuries-old Japanese beauty secrets. This set embodies the four essential skincare steps: 1) Clean – Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil melts away makeup and dirt; 2) Exfoliate – Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder exfoliates and tones skin without harsh abrasives; 3) Moisturize – The Water Cream contains anti-aging ingredients that hydrates and refines skin without leaving any greasiness; and 4) Prep skin for makeup – Luminous Dewy Skin Mist can be used under makeup or throughout the day to refresh makeup or bare skin.

Brittany’s Fall Favourites

In this series, we share products that Brittany Gray, our Owner and Creative Director, have used and fallen in love with.  With her vast experience and passion for makeup and skincare, she’s the perfect person to get advice from. So…early Christmas shopping anyone?

Yves Saint Laurent’s All Hours Full Coverage Foundation

Brittany – “I use this every day. Whenever I wear it, my makeup lasts from morning until night and I always get compliments on my “flawless” skin. It’s the foundation at work!!”

The formula allows for up to 24 hours of long, waterproof, comfortable and no touch-up needed wear. The matte shine control of the oil-control formula keeps the skin shine-free and reduces the appearance of pores.

Benefit Cosmetic’s Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel

Brittany – “I use this everyday alone on my brows. Fast and easy!”

A cult favourite and deservedly so. It’s brush application allows for an easier application and a more natural look than brow pencils. The formula builds easily for thick, full arches, and a tapered brush can be used to blend while the precision tip for shaping the perfect brows.

Nudestix’s Magnetic Luminous Eye Color

Brittany – “Obsessed with these: so long lasting and so much pigment!”

This innovative company is known for its easy-to-apply makeup that all comes in either stick or pencil form, perfect for those of us who are short on time. These “touch n’go makeup stix” glides on and blends easily, and can be used on not only the eyelids but the cheekbones, brow arch and tear ducts as well.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna’s Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick

Brittany – “Love the Fenty Beauty product because it creates the perfect glow without being too liquid or too greasy. Love the consistency. Apply before or after foundation or after. Super easy to use & creates a candle lit glow. I love Starstruck!”

Rihanna’s foray into the beauty market is definitely one of her best career moves and it was a long-time coming. Her style is legendary, classic but somehow edgy at the same time. We can’t wait to see what Fenty Beauty comes out with next!

Tarte’s Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer Rainforest of the Sea

Brittany – “The tarte moisturizer is packed with hydration and smells amazing. Perfect for the fall and winter months. Lightweight too!”

Cute, must-have packaging aside, this moisturizer is packed with electrolyte hydration that soothes and refreshes parched skin courtesy of the marine antioxidants from Tarte’s trademarked Rainforest of the Sea complex. This cooling gel is a mixture of hyaluronic acid and electrolyte-balancing sea salts that works to hydrate skin without weighing it down.

Bridal Hair Jewellery

The perfect dress and makeup are undoubtedly two things at the top of every bride’s wishlist, but a bride’s look is not complete until she finds the perfect hairstyle…plus the all-important shiny pieces to bring the whole look together.

Here we talk about the essential pieces of bridal hair jewellery.

The Veil

Yes, it’s not technically jewellery, but how can we discuss bridal hair and fashion without mentioning the most iconic piece that a bride wears on her wedding day. I know some people may choose to forgo a veil nowadays, but your wedding day is basically the only time you can wear a veil without looking weird. So go ahead and wear one if you want!

This stunning Amanie Pearl Veil from Blair Nadeau should be all the reason you need to wear a veil, and it is simply too breathtaking to not mention on this blog! The jewels in this veil come courtesy of the hundreds of Preciosa pearls, which are hand applied on this single tier non gathered mantilla style French tulle veil.

The Hair Comb

When wearing a veil, it’s a good idea to keep your hairstyle and accessories somewhat simple to keep your look from becoming too cluttered.  Either of these jeweled stunners from Kleinfeld would be a perfect complement to wear under a veil. They manage to add some sparkle without stealing the show away from the veil.

Filigree Luna Comb

Nevoux Comb

The hair comb can also be worn alone without a veil and pairs especially well with a side-swept hair style.

The Crown or Tiara

Even though your veil may be too beautiful to take off, you might want to for the reception just so you have an excuse to wear another piece of jewellery. If you do plan on taking it off, make sure you have someone (preferably one of our stylists) on hand to help you remove the veil correctly and re-position your hair style and hair accessories if necessary. Your hairstyle might get ruined if the veil isn’t taken off carefully and correctly.

Why not replace the veil with something even more dramatic like this Adeline Gold Starburst Crown? Adhering to the 2017 collection’s celestial theme perfectly, this crown contains a variety of differently-sized starbursts that are hand painted and finished with a shimmery iridescent coating, and of course a few Swarovski pearls and crystals.

Adeline Gold Starburst Crown

Or perhaps you are a Games of Thrones fan? This medieval-inspired crown made of golden brass stamped filigree medallions will have you feeling like the Queen on the Iron Throne at your wedding, but we all know how infamous weddings are in Westeros…

The Headband

Wearing a bejeweled headband certainly makes for a bold and unique fashion statement. Similar to the crown or tiara discussed above, headbands, or diadems as they were called in ancient Greece, also signified royalty in some ancient cultures. Feel like a princess in one of these delicate creations by Elsa Corsi.

The Sarah Halo headband features three round clusters of Swarovski Crystal with Vintage Rose cushion cut center stones that are meant to rest on your forehead, as well as a double layer of crystals that swags at the back, making it as beautiful from the front as it is from the back.

The Tina headband features a striking lattice design of marquise flowers in the front, which can be worn directly on the forehead or higher up on the crown.  Powerful and feminine at the same time, we’d like to imagine that this stunning piece is what Wonder Woman would wear on her wedding day.

The Look from Behind

You want to ensure that your guests will have something to dazzle them during your long walk down the aisle, and for part of the ceremony as well. This understated string of Swarovski Crystals from Elsa Corsi gives you the circlet look from behind without committing to the whole crown. It’s the perfect look for brides who opt to wear their hair down.

Jeweled Hair Swag

The Flower Girl

Don’t let the cute flower girls be the only ones who get flowers. Flowers tucked behind the ears instantly evoke feelings of carefree days in the sun. Bring a bit of the beach into your wedding day by adorning your hair with silk flowers, which are just as beautiful as and more enduring than the real thing.

This Flora Silk Flower Hair Comb is made from the Peau de Soie silk, the ‘queen of all silk’. Each of the three beautifully crafted blooms are hand pressed using traditional millinery irons, and in the center of each lies a beautiful hand wired Swarovski crystal and pearl stamens. The perfect complement for a side-swept do.

Remember, if you can’t choose just one piece to wear, then change it up! Wear one during the ceremony and reserve the more dramatic piece for the reception, when it’s time to let your hair down and party.
