Valentine’s Day Glamour Makeup Tutorial

Britt FeatureProducts & Tips

Brittany Gray, owner and creative director of Fancy Face, shares her step-by-step guide to creating the perfect glowing, gorgeous, glam Valentine’s Day look with some of her favourite makeup and beauty products.

Today I wanted to share with you how to create a beautiful, sexy and sultry date night look for Valentine’s Day! (You can watch the full video below or on our IGTV)

Step One

My first step before putting on any makeup is to apply our Fancy Face under eye patches, Fancy Face Under Eye Stardust Gel Eye Masks. Our collection will be launching soon, hopefully late February or early March, we can’t wait! I love applying the eye patches before makeup to let them soak in and really allow the nutrients to permeate the skin. 20 minutes is a great amount of time to help reduce fine lines, puffiness, dark circles and to hydrate the under eye area.

Step 2

Once the patches are on, I use Strobe Cream from Mac to start the makeup for my night out! This cream gives you a gorgeous dewy, glowy, sultry look. You want your skin to be breathtaking, and this will help! Just put a bit on the back of your hand and use a brush to apply the cream all over your face.

Step 3

Next, I use Too Faced Born This Way Concealer as my primer. Just pop it on the lid of your eye on both sides and gently blend it out. If you aren’t using a primer (it isn’t always necessary to put primer on your eyes, they can still pop without it), I recommend using a little loose setting powder on top to set it and keep it in place when the shadow goes on, and to help prevent creasing. Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder is fantastic, just put it all over the eyes.

Step 4

For the eyes, I want to really focus on the liner so we’ll keep the crease a little more simple. I put Marc Jacobs Bronzer into the crease of my eyes for warmth, using the Duo Fiber Brush from Mac. A little trick? I always put bronzer in my crease. It’s an easy way to look polished quickly, even without using a primer from day to day.

Step 5

The eye shadow I start with is Huda Beauty Nude Eyeshadow Palette. This palette has really stunning colours. I put on a bit of the colour “Teddy” and work through my crease lightly. It does  have a bit of a mauve-pink tone, so I jump into the Modern Renaissance Palette to add some warmer browns and stay away from the typical Valentine’s pinks. Use the “Burnt Orange” in your crease with a brush, then take a bit of “Warm Taupe” and put that on outer corners of the eye. You want to have a bit of smokey flair but not an overtly dark and smokey eye. Place your focus more on the winged liner for date night and give the eyes an extra pop with some glitter. I use a little bit more of the Modern Renaissance at the end in the inside corner of my eyes for an extra pop.

Step 6

Let’s get into the Stila Diamond Dust Glitters! It’s easiest (and cleanest) to put some of the Glitters on the back of your hand to start. I’d suggest using a flat brush to gently apply. Take all of the time you need to make sure the glitter is where you want it to be and you’re not getting it onto your clothes or into your eyes – it can hurt!

Step 7

The eyeliner. The real star of the show! I use Stila Black Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. Carefully apply the liner and don’t be afraid to go a little further into the inner corner of your eye, too. If it’s not perfect, that’s ok. We will soften it with some black shadow, as well. Use an angle brush for the best application of your shadow. I love “On The Grill” from the Too Faced White Peach Palette. To make more of a cat eye effect, I add some liner in the waterline (the rim where your lid meets your eye) as well.

Step 8

Huge Extreme by Stila is a fantastic mascara. Apply from root to tip. Then comes my favourite part – lashes! This time around, I use Velour Lash Glue on the band. My lashes are by Lady Lash Club. I chose “Hypnotic” for a more whispy, sultry look. If they are a bit long, you can trim the ends as needed to fit your eye. Be sure you use enough glue so they don’t fall off. When the rest of your look is complete, you can add a little more mascara once again, this time only to the root lash, and if you’d like, on your bottom lashes.

Step 9

To create the perfect brow, I use DipBrow Pomade by Anastasia. The perfect colour for my hair is “Taupe” and people really do swear by this product. Using an angled lash brush, dip into the product and create your brow! For the front, I do the bottom line of the brow first then brush up. I gently lift the brush off the brow a little so the front creates a bit of a softer look.

Step 10

Once the glue is dry and your lashes are secure, give them a curl for a gorgeous lifted lash.

Step 11

Let’s get highlighting! I use Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Modern Renaissance palette “Vermeer” for a gentle highlight under brow bone.

Step 12

Time to remove the eye patches. I use the incredible La Mer’s The Eye Balm Intense eye cream to hydrate a little further.

Step 13

For lips, one of my absolute favourites for extra hydration is Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. Pop a bit on your lips and continue your amazing makeup artistry!

Step 14

Now onto the skin! I love Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer. It’s great for so many skin types. It will help make your skin dewy and is a great base for the rest of the makeup. The only thing to keep in mind is that it works better for dry and combination skin but not ideal for oily skin, so know your type before you use this primer.

Step 15

I take Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Foundation in “BD 35” and apply it all over my face using my trusty Beauty Blender, working it into the skin.

Step 16

This is the really fun part where your makeup starts to come to life and it all starts coming together. Using the Tarte Concealer in “Light Sand”, I blend it in around my eyes, chin and forehead. Use a brush to really complete the blend and don’t forget to get those inner corners.

I do like the look of a brighter under eye, though once you do contour and bronzing it doesn’t look quite as severe.

Step 17

One of my absolute staple products that has been in my kit for years and is continually repurchased is Chanel Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream. It is a superstar product that many makeup artists keep in their kits. It gives you this gorgeous, sunkissed glow and I would definitely recommend it! The one and only one criticism I have is that it doesn’t come in multiple shades, so it works best on fair to medium skin.

Step 18

For those of you that want a bit more contouring, I’d use something like the Makeup Forever HD Stick in “177Y505”. This is where you can create your definition. You can add the product to your face, hair line, jaw line, cheekbone and even your nose then start blending!

Step 19

For that sweet flush on your cheek to give that romantic, cherubic, Valentine’s Day look use Stila Convertible Colour Cream Blush.

Step 20

CoverFX Custom Enhancer Drops in “Moonlight” is a brilliant highlighter. It gives you a gorgeous, radiant glow without looking chalky the way a powder can. I use a flat brush by MAC, the 197S, for highlighter. I pop it on the high points of my cheeks, a little on the centre of my nose, on my forehead and on my cupid’s bow over my lip.

Step 21

We’re so close! Set your makeup with the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder. You can go quite heavily under the eyes and use it to help create that high cheek bone. You can then use the Marc Jacobs Bronzer, Tantric 102, to set all of the cream we used and add it under the eyes for some definition to give it that blown out, soft look.

Step 22

Blend all of that setting product together!

Step 23

Add a last bit of blush. I used “Spoiled” and “Coastline” from the Anastasia Blush Kit. Smile and hit the apples of those cheeks.

Step 24

Lips! Pat off your lip mask and carefully apply your lip pencil. I use the NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner in “Los Angeles”, followed by Nyx Liquid Suede in “Tea and Cookies” for colour on the lips.

Last Step!

Finish off your gorgeous Valentine’s look with a last touch of highlight, why not!? I use Senna Divine Shine for that glowy, gorgeous, glam look and a final spot of Gee Beauty Bronzer in “Golden Glow” on the cheeks, nose, forehead. Voila! You’re picture perfect and ready for your beautiful, sexy night out. Happy Valentine’s Day!
