Fancy Face strives to remain current and on trend by holding an annual hair and makeup Fancy Face Masterclass for their team of exceptional artists.
At the beginning of every year, I gather my amazing team and hold a Fancy Face Masterclass to educate them on what is trending for the season ahead, as well as what our brides and clients are loving in the moment. We all come together to ensure we are working as one, equally skilled team, and on trend when it comes to styles and techniques that are popular and current.
I’m sharing this in-depth for the first time for two reasons:
- To show our audience how committed we are to the Fancy Face standard and the processes we go through to ensure the highest quality of work from all of our artists.
- We are offering open lessons and masterclasses to professionals and individuals who want to learn the Fancy Face standard for themselves – keep reading to learn more about this!
During this year’s Fancy Face Masterclass, we spent two days training together at Mint Room Studios in Toronto from 10am until 6pm. One day was spent working with our makeup artists and the other was with our hair stylists. Both days were highly intensive, inspiring and covered a vast range of styles, trends and techniques.
We were fortunate to have tremendous vendors on board for the weekend as well. Alongside Mint Studios, we had the amazing Elle Cuisine catering, Detailz Couture providing gorgeous furniture, August Media putting together a brilliant video and the always awesome Purple Tree Photography documenting the masterclass. We really wanted to give our audience real insight into what it’s like to train with Fancy Face when it comes to the masterclasses and lessons that we offer to both professionals in the industry, and to individuals who want to learn more about hair and makeup for their personal styling. At Fancy Face, we are very particular about the talent on our team being at the same level and of the highest standard. We don’t have varying levels of artistry, each and every artist is equally talented and knowledgeable. Here’s a little background on how we choose our Fancy Face artists:
I follow a rigorous hiring process and admit I have very high standards when it comes to my initial analysis of potential artists. First I check out their skillset online, explore their resume, their kit photos and experience. I also have them answer a number of questions related to our work and their own work. From there, if they seem like they may be a good fit with Fancy Face, they come in for a face to face interview and do a demonstration on me, personally. If they seem like the right fit, they shadow about ten bookings and observe how our team of artists work, as well as what products and styles our team members use and create. From there, potential artists have two to three hours of training with me. Once they’ve gone through this rigorous training schedule, they are ready to take on our clientele. Our annual Fancy Face Masterclass ensures that all of our artists are in-the-know and completely savvy when it comes to the hottest trends and the most current bridal and red carpet looks, as well as the newest products, techniques and styles that are being sought out. We come together and discuss what is working, what looks amazing and clarify and rediscover our aesthetic. At Fancy Face, we have a very specific look, fortunately one that many love and come to us for! So it is imperative that we are cohesive and on the same page as a team.
This year we are focusing more than ever on teaching and educating others, both industry professionals and individual women, how to work with hair and makeup, feel their absolute best and make their clients feel amazing. We’re also working hard to create content that includes videos and pictures to give you the inside scoop on what training with Fancy Face is like.
