We all know that golden hour is the absolute prime time to take the most magical photos. So we’ve put together a few tips and tricks to ensure you have everything you need to take full advantage of this stunning time of day and score the best pics possible. Here are our 3 tips for amazing golden hour photography!
Why do we see so many amazing makeup selfies come out of California?! It’s located on the West Coast and always has the most stunning sunsets, that’s why! Golden hour varies depending on where you are, the time of year and what the weather is like, but a general rule of thumb is that it is an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset. For that reason, plan ahead! Make sure you’ve got hair and makeup done beforehand, a cute location picked out or even just a really well-lit area.
If we could walk around with a permanent golden hour filter, we absolutely would. There’s nothing more gorgeous or flattering than the perfect lighting shining on your highlighted cheekbones, sparkly eyeshadow and glossy lips. Here are a few golden hour beauty tips to get that perfect selfie.
✨ Glow, baby, glow
Try mixing your cream blush with a cream highlighter for a perfect, natural-looking glow when the sun hits your skin. We love mixing Blossom or Almost Famous cream blush with Dew-U and popping that onto the high points of the cheekbones as well as the apples of the cheeks. A common thought is that highlighter shouldn’t be placed on the apples of the cheeks, especially if you have larger pores. We at Fancy Face go against that; we love applying our highlight on the apples of our cheeks and truly feel that it gives the most radiant, natural-looking glow. Next time you do your makeup, give it a go and see how gorgeous you look in those selfies!
✨ Get your sparkle on
Think of golden hour as the perfect time to wear anything and everything that sparkles, that way wherever the light hits, your complexion will look sun-soaked and beautifully lit. Throw some sparkly eyeshadow on your lids (Our Boujie highlighter is a perfect shade); warmer tones with gold reflects look absolutely stunning with golden hour lighting. For the ultimate glow, don’t be afraid to add it to your shoulders and collarbone, as well. Finish your look off with our perfectly golden Bubbly lip gloss and voilà!
✨ It’s all about positioning
Last but not least, let’s talk about how to best position yourself in lighting to get that perfect selfie. If you’re shooting indoors ensure that you’re facing a window, that way you get the light hitting you directly. If you’re taking your photos outdoors simply stand in the sunlight and snap away! Taking pictures at golden hour is all about angles! Try side profile shots or even just tilting your head so the sun hits you in all the right places. There’s nothing better than seeing that gorgeous glow in your photos.
We hope you have some fun trying out our 3 tips for awesome golden hour photography. Happy snapping, beauties!
